History of TIPPER TIE

TIPPER TIE

TIPPER TIE celebrated its golden anniversary in 2002. The company was founded in 1952 on one man's revolutionary idea: the invention of the first successful labor-saving clip and tying machine for meat casings. The company was named TIPPER TIE – after one of the company’s co-founders Maynard Tipper, and the first product, based on Tipper’s design -the Tipper Casing Tyer.

In 1958, the company had its second revolution - a second-tie machine that would replace the labor-consuming task of hand tying filled food casings on the stuffing table. Tipper called his newest invention the Tipper Clipper. The ability to clip and close both ends of a meat casing by machine took the market by storm and is the basis for the clipper and clip industry as we know it. Today's superior clipper and clip technology still utilize the design fundamentals of the original Tipper Clipper.

In the mid-1970s, TIPPER TIE entered into a partnership with stainless steel product manufacturer Acraloc Corporation. The two companies developed a fully automatic rotary packaging machine that had first eight and then sixteen nozzles upon which vacuum packed bags were positioned and then clipped by a specialized Tipper Clipper.

In effect, the automated clipping equipment led to TIPPE TIE's development of machines to connect to stuffers, making the clipping process a direct part of the overall line process – another innovation.

In 1981, TIPPER TIE became part of the DOVER Corporation, a large conglomerate based in Illinois/USA and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

TECHNOPACK

In 1994, the company acquired Technopack, based in Glinde, Germany. Back in 1960, TECHNOPACK successfully introduced the first modern TIPPER TIE clipping machines and clip seals to the German and European foodstuffs industry and in particular to the meat processing industry. The close cooperation between these companies finally led to them merging.

TECHNOPACK provided TIPPER TIE with an additional manufacturing plant that offered similar equipment; that significantly expanded its global marketing, manufacturing and distribution base; and that gave it a wider clip and clipper product line.

ALPINA

In 2000, ALPINA, Switzerland, was integrated into the TIPPER TIE family. In 1870, August Hoegger, the ALPINA company founder, began as a farrier and cartwright in Gossau. As early as the turn of the century he produced the first robust, durable meat processing machines. ALPINA provided a branded high-speed automatic clipper line and was widely recognized for manufacturing bowl choppers which further enhanced the company's product line. With the ALPINA acquisition TIPPER TIE was introduced to a new market within the food processing industry. In December 2010, the company moved from Gossau to Flawil.

TODAY

Long a market leader, TIPPER TIE has forged a strong international market and brand presence in recent years. The Company has revitalized its focus on its core competencies in engineering and product development, invested in modern lean manufacturing techniques and broadened its capabilities through several key acquisitions. From its origins making clip closures for meat casings to its array of innovative packaging closure systems today, TIPPER TIE has a history of working closely with its customers to identify and service their needs for processing and packaging meat, poultry, and other diverse food and non-food products.
